Final call for Graduate applications...

We were thrilled recently to attend a career event at a local college in Dublin. There has been an increased interest in Graduate roles in Microsoft this year which is great - and even as the tables were being set up there was a buzz in the air as the Computer Science soon-to-be graduates started strolling through the aisles. A handful of our more recent Graduate Hires gave students real life stories of starting their career and how it was going! Their demonstrations on the cool products they work on, relaxed work environment, and career mobility gave potential future hires even more insight in Microsoft as their first possible career move.

Our recruiting team has been busy for the last few months attending career events at colleges accross Europe. In fact, this was the last Graduate event for us before the end of our application deadline of December 5th.....but then that application is just the beginning......following that there is an on-line Technical apptitude test, followed by an assessment centre day and final round interviews here at the Dublin campus. For all who are applying stay tuned here over the coming weeks, for some further tips and tricks on how to navigate that process from some of our recent hires.....

DigiYouthz - They Came, They Saw...

The DigiYouthZ program launched on 12th November with a full-day event for 84 teenage students & 7 teachers from schools across Dublin.
The students saw a selection of technology demos, heard from Microsoft employees with diverse entry points into their own IT careers, did tours of the European Development Centre, participated in Xbox and Movie Maker workshops, and finished the day with an uproarious session in the auditorium. There was terrific energy and fun throughout the day, and as anyone who was at the final session can testify, this is not a shy, retiring generation!

We received great feedback on the whole event, with most popular sessions proving to be the Xbox & Movie Maker workshops where small teams created 3-minute movies for the closing competition. One teacher commented: “What you are doing is excellent. Catch them while they are young, enthusiastic and instil some sort of interest in your profession. Keep up the good work" .  Many participants wrote that they were going home to download programs that they had previously assumed would be too difficult to learn. This is great feedback given that DigiYouthz aims to open students’ minds to the wide array of exciting career opportunities in the IT industry, and specifically to encourage greater take-up of technical degree courses in Ireland.
