November 26 DigiYouthz - They Came, They Saw...The DigiYouthZ program launched on 12th November with a full-day event for 84 teenage students & 7 teachers from schools across Dublin.
The students saw a selection of technology demos, heard from Microsoft employees with diverse entry points into their own IT careers, did tours of the European Development Centre, participated in Xbox and Movie Maker workshops, and finished the day with an uproarious session in the auditorium. There was terrific energy and fun throughout the day, and as anyone who was at the final session can testify, this is not a shy, retiring generation!
We received great feedback on the whole event, with most popular sessions proving to be the Xbox & Movie Maker workshops where small teams created 3-minute movies for the closing competition. One teacher commented: “What you are doing is excellent. Catch them while they are young, enthusiastic and instil some sort of interest in your profession. Keep up the good work" . Many participants wrote that they were going home to download programs that they had previously assumed would be too difficult to learn. This is great feedback given that DigiYouthz aims to open students’ minds to the wide array of exciting career opportunities in the IT industry, and specifically to encourage greater take-up of technical degree courses in Ireland.
