Not just Project Management, PROGRAM Management......

Often within Microsoft we have roles that are referred to as Program Managers - typically this is where an individual is managing multiple projects at one time, but also often contributing to the development of the business strategy, working closely with the groups and other programs managers. Key focus is on driving continuous improvement (through process, cost or other initiatives) and the achievement of operational objectives through teaming across functions and divisions. This role involves PEOPLE, PEOPLE, PEOPLE, and relationships are key........check out this clip where Leonardo tells us more about his role as a GLOBAL Program Manager in Operations for our one of our ERP Dynamics Products...also check out our current Program Manager opportunities under Operations at the following link: Current vacancies in MS Ireland

"So what's in it for me" I hear some people ask.....

How can I be successful and grow within a large Multinational Organisation like Microsoft??!!

I wanted to call out here what I hear our employees get excited about when it comes to career, personal growth and other benefits. And don't just take my word for it, we will also feature people over coming weeks that will fill you in on their own career path, and how they have found inspiration in the culture and fun of their own team and beyond......

Along with a dynamic company culture which innovates every day, most people talk about the really SMART people that they work with, helping them to deliver and achieve!! This keeps us on our toes, and really drives great discussions and outcomes across the company!! We have the latest technology in-house to help you get what you need done faster........also overall we encourage a flexible working environment. Typically people work hard here, but the aim is to work around what else is going on in your life too!

Our package offering varies from group to group - we have specific revenue based targets for people in Sales and Consulting roles, while in other areas, the offering is usually made up if a base salary, reviewed on an annual basis as individual distinction is always recognised;0), on hire stock and annual bonuses determined by review of your work performance and productivity. We also offer pension, health protection for both you and your dependants, 25 days holiday, flexible working hours, maternity leave, a highly subsidised canteen, free car-parking, on-site gym, discounted company store, education assistance, travel pass schemes....and much more.

Hopefully that answers some of your queries on what's on offer...keep an eye out for some further clips on employees giving you the inside track.

Revenue Program Management - what's it all about?

Deirdre from OEM Operations (that's Original Equipment Manufacturers to you and me, ie. companies who use product components from one or more other companies to build a product that is then sold under its own company name and brand) recently met with me to fill us all in on what it takes to be a Revenue Program Manager. Lots of grit and determination, as well as excellent people skills sound like a must! But the perks of working with people virtually across the globe and some travel make it a REALLY interesting role! Check out her video here......

OEM Operations are always on the look out for Strong Operations and Supply Chain candidates, so if you are interested check out our current opportunities, they can be found under Operations at the following link:Microsoft Careers Ireland

3 new teams hiring development talent

Microsoft Ireland is synonymous with Sales, Marketing, Operations and Localisation but did you know that we are doing hard-core product and services development in Dublin as well. As of April 2005 we have been slowly building up our research and development capabilities and we now have over 100 people in the group. One of the biggest teams we have in the development centre is called Group Product Development – Europe (GPDE). This is a highly talented team that is working with Visualisation, Graphics, Mobile, Search and a lot more.

Recently we just set up 3 new teams in GPDE dealing with online experimentation, distributed computing and Windows Mobile applications. We now have 15 positions on offer to hire.

We currently have a variety of jobs on offer in the team including senior developers and testers and also some technical project management roles which we call Program Managers.

To find out more about these opportunities visit www.joinmicrosofteurope.com to see the micro-site that the team built that includes videos of team members, job descriptions, details on living in Ireland and descriptions of the projects on offer. There is also a section for the team blogs from which you can learn about some of the technologies and challenges they are currently working with.
